Property

The New Zealand system of ownership of land includes a government-guaranteed system of title. Once you are registered as owner, the State generally guarantees your ownership and the boundaries, location and area of the land.

We handle all types of land and property transactions – houses, farms, subdivisions, commercial developments, hotels and motels, foreign investments in New Zealand, ship and chattels transactions, leasing, rural property, financing and securities.

Quick Facts

Did you know:

  • If you own property, bank accounts and chattels as joint tenants, your co-owner will automatically inherit those assets on your death, even if there is a contrary intention shown in your will.

  • The purchase of land by overseas residents may require special permission if it is in a sensitive area or is of high value.

  • You can check third party claims to chattels (vehicles, boats, electronic equipment) before you buy second hand items on www.ppsr.govt.nz.
